Rags to Riches - A TV Show Concept
A Biographical TV Show
The Premise
This show traces the roots of wealth in the vein of the podcast How I Built This with Guy Raz. The focus is exclusively on people who were born and raised as middle class or poor. They also must have become multi-millionaires. This is Rags to Riches.
Three Acts
Act One:
Focus on the biography of the person. Where they were born and grew up, what their childhood was like, what their parents were like and all other aspects of their lives before becoming wealthy.
Act Two:
Focus on the idea, the mentor, or any other 'turning point' that lead them to wealth. This has little or nothing to do with the person. This is a focus on the extrinsic factors that aligned for them to 'turn the corner' on wealth. So, quite literally, I'd like to itemize over time the external factors that help people take steps forward.
Act Three:
Focus on the wealthy person's story of how they became wealthy. This feels more like an interview with clips and images hearkening back to the previous two sections. Restating childhood influences, key people, places, events, and ideas. The above two sections are done biographically with little input from the person themselves. This section is autobiographical and allows the person we are focused on to discuss how it all came together for them personally. They may express how their inner drive was the key component or luck, or how a dream or vision drove them. It is also a chance for them to express how they feel about all that's happened.
The host should be unafraid, and the guests willing, to try and honestly tease out the influences to try and generate a guidebook for people looking to succeed on their own.
