A Place for my ADHD Rants - My Catharsis Essentially, like everyone else, I have a lot of thoughts and ideas floating around in my head. It is cathartic to put them somewhere - to "scream into the abyss" so to speak. It just clears my head to talk with people and to write. So, that is the main point here. However,  I am also a teacher and I have designed a school with a friend. Well, a school constitution and concept and I have a partially completed application for a charter school of this design. Whether my life permits me to create the school myself or not - I'd still like the idea to be out there and that might be the "crowning jewel" of this blog and podcast. A simple reality TV idea The Premise Take your contestants to a city they've never been to. Ensure that they do not make contact with anybody that they already know. Give them a functioning cell phone & $1000, and a myriad of tracking and filming devices to record their experience. What do they do first? Do they live on the street? Do they rent an apartment? Where do they spend that $? Illegal behavior should be disqualified and explicitly rejected... but people are people - what will they do to survive? Goals The goal is to make something of themselves. The contestant with the largest asset pool (cash, accounts, property, cars, etc.) at the end of the season (weekly for 4 months?) is crowned the "Hustler" and wins the prize. A million dollars? A job at a prestigious firm? Doesn't matter much.... they are the HUSTLER!!  A News Organization The Vision Providing news algorithmically prioritized according to how much it helps or hurts a citizen's, or group of citizens, ability to lead a healthy, productive life of personal actualization. The chart above from the WHO, for example, tells us that stories on the health or damage to the cardiovascular system should be top priority stories for the health and well-bieng of all people. The Mission Reduce death, suffering, and misery by empowering people with information and an educational training network to allow people to practice the life skills and behaviors that will better their living experience in as many ways as possible. The Look I would definitely take cues from MappingPoliceViolence.org and DataDrivenJournalism.net as well as the NYT Upshot . The content would be very visual and data-rich while still telling a story and making a claim. Why has nobody designed this yet? Maybe I'll send a prototype to India to be mass produced. Do boots, shoes, or booties constantly fall off of your dog or cat? Yes, because dogs and cats want them off! So they shake, they pull at them, and so on. And the way they are designed, they usually eventually fall off. But what if they were strapped on? I don't mean around the ankles as many companies have tried... I mean over the back. Straps that go from the outside of the upper part of the boots and clip together on the top of the back. Two pairs, strapped over the back and then the third strap to hold the two over the back straps in place.... a picture would be better here. Of course, you make a matching rain poncho that goes over the dogs back and clips to the straps. In this way, rain won't get in the boots. Of course, it would have to be a custom fit. Not New to the Game The Voices I’ve heard it a thousand times from people speaking near me or directly to me. I’ve heard it in movies and music as both a joke and a serious charge. White devils. White people are evil. On the subway kissing a girl and hearing "I hate seeing white people kiss, it's disgusting!" Or in the most recent iteration as the closing line to a successful Netflix series... “I fucking hate white people.”  I’ll tell you what, so do I. Am I evil? I remember getting into it one time on Flatbush Avenue at the junction near Nostrand somewhere in 1998. I was walking home and noticed some black guys all dressed up, as my friend Kate would put it, in their Star Trek costumes. I had to take a look.  They called themselves the Black Israelites and they definitely believed the white man was the devil. How do I know, they said so as I walked by. They can also be found on most podcast platforms via Anchor under the title: Curiosity of Inquiry - an Al B. Einstein Production. My initial thought is that all guests will have an opening conversation outlining their educational journey, professional life, and personal bio. Whether this is part of a larger conversation or the only conversation we ever have, that will be the intro to all guests. After that, they might decide to continue conversations with me around the thesis of one of my posts. A Biographical TV Show The Premise This show traces the roots of wealth in the vein of the podcast How I Built This with Guy Raz . The focus is exclusively on people who were born and raised as middle class or poor. They also must have become multi-millionaires. This is Rags to Riches. Three Acts Act One: Focus on the biography of the person. Where they were born and grew up, what their childhood was like, what their parents were like and all other aspects of their lives before becoming wealthy. Act Two: Focus on the idea, the mentor, or any other 'turning point' that lead them to wealth. This has little or nothing to do with the person. This is a focus on the extrinsic factors that aligned for them to 'turn the corner' on wealth. So, quite literally, I'd like to itemize over time the external factors that help people take steps forward. Act Three: Focus on the wealthy person's story of how they became wealthy. Be Here Now Colorado In 1996, I read this book called Be Here Now by Ram Dass and after reading it, I listened to Nas' It Was Written for the first time. I left the house and walked to a nearby park with a river and sat, listening to the water. Looking at the scene. I was with friends. We decided to go for a drive through Boulder, CO and up to the small town of Nederland, CO. I played chess with the woman that would become my wife in a small cafe with a squeaky wooden door. Maybe I had coffee... or tea. But I loved the old furniture, chess, the view of the Rockies. I was right there, right then. We hiked up the mountains outside of Nederland. Up to the treeline. There, we were overtaken by the sleepiness that Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Lion, and the Tin Man faced in the poppy fields outside of the Emerald City. Talent vs Access A post about the minor misperceptions that allow us to fail, punish, incarcerate, kill and destroy hearts and minds. The so called "black" community likely has a lot of fear, anger, and distrust of our society and history as well as current situations justify that. Two hundred and forty six years of slavery (including stealing people from their homes, prohibiting their native languages, prohibiting their education, beating, killing, raping as well as separating families repeatedly to destroy any sense of family or community.)
